Y 5/6 Barnsley Tag Rugby Final

Action from the Mixed Tag Rugby16 Schools took part in the annual Year 5/6 Mixed Tag Rugby Tournament which was held at Barnsley Rugby Club, Shaw Lane on Wednesday 19th March.

Each of the schools who took part in the event had already won or come runner up in their individual family events which had been held during the previous month.

Most schools had recieved coaching from either SportActiv, Barnsley Rugby Club, Sheffield Eagles or Doncaster Lakers and the quality on show at the event provided evidence that these sessions had paid off. The skill level and teamwork on show was excellent and was commented on by the various Rugby Development Officers who were there to support the event.

KS 2/3 Gymnastics Competition

Action from the Key Stage 2 Competition16 schools from both Key Stage 2 and 3 took part in the annual Gymnastics competition which was held at Kingstone Community Sports Centre on thursday 6th March. The afternoon was filled with some excellent routines which showed lots of teamwork and skill. It was eveident that all the gymnasts and staff had put in hours of practice in preparation for the event and thanks go to everyone for making the event the success it was.

Y 5/6 Hockey Tournament

Action from the Hockey Tournament11 schools and 12 teams took part in the second of this years Hockey Tournaments which was held at Dorothy Hyman stadium in Cudworth. Luckily for the tournament, it was the first time for a couple of years where the event was not taking place in rain and wind.

Each school played 5 games in their groups in order to find 2 teams to play off in the final. There were some excellent hockey skills on display from all of the schools and hopefully some will continue with their development by joining Barnsley Hockey Club.

Congratulations go to Brierley who finished as winners of the tournament, beating High View in a closely played final.

Year 3-6 Cross Country

Wakefield Independent schools are organising a Year 3 - 6 cross country event which is to be held at the Nostell Centre in Wakefield. The event will be similar to the events which were run last year at Cannon Hall and Phoenix Park.

Step into Sport Volunteer Passport

Click here for more informationThe Step Into Sport Volunteer Passport is a dedicated website to allow volunteers to quickly register all their volunteering hours, check on their progress and see up and coming events.

The site also allows Volunteer Coordinators to instantly validate volunteer's work and keep in touch with local schools, and allows School Mentors and Country Sport Partnerships to cut-out the paperwork, complete management tools for volunteers and placements.

Priory & Holgate High 5 Netball Finals

Winners of the Priory Partnership FinalBoth Priory and Holgate Partnerships have staged their High 5 Netball Finals with 7 schools taking part in each event. All schools in the final had to win their own cluster event before they could move on to the final and this meant that there was some high quality netball on show in both events. Barnsley Dance Festival

Action from the Dance Festival 15 Primary and Secondary schools took part in the second Barnsley Dance Festival which was held at Royston Primary School on Wednesday 23rd January. Each school performed a routine of their choice in front of a panel of judges in order to achieve the highest score possible. The quality of the performances of the day was outstanding and hopefully we can get even more schools next year to make the event and even greater success than this year.

Year 8 Sportshall Athletics

Winners of the Y8 Sportshall7 schools took part in the 2nd Year 8 Sportshall Athletics event which was held at Athersley Recreation Centre on Tuesday 22nd January. Congratulations go to Darton who finshed as eventual winners of the event after gaining the highest combined girls and boys score.

Priory Partnership Final

Winners of the Priory SHA Event6 schools made it through to the Priory Partnership SHA Final which was held at Priory Sports College on Thursday 13th December. Each of the schools had already won their own family SHA event and so were already winners before they started. Congratulations to Brierley who finished as winners of the event with Silkstone Common finishing in second place.

Sports Partnership Mark 2007

Sports Partnership Mark 2007Congratulations to Priory School Sport Partnership who have been awarded Sports Partnership mark for their achievements during the 2006-07 school year. The award was given to partnerships who had at least 90% of pupils doing 2 hrs PE and School Sport. Only 143 partnerships out of over 500 nationally have recieved the award and it rewards all the hard work that members of the Partnership have put in over the last year.

Year 4 Football Multi Skills

Event Winners from the Y4 Football11 Schools took part in the first ever Year 4 Football Multi Skills event, held at Barnsley Football Club Academy Complex on Wednesday 5th December. Congratulations go to High View who won the tournament with Wellgate finishing in second place.

Sportsmark / Activemark

Congratulations to the schools in both the Holgate and Priory Partnerships who have achieved either Sportsmark or Activemark as a result of their results in the 2007 PESSCL Survey. 60 out of 94 Primary and Secondary schools recieved one of the awards which they will keep for one year.

KS1 Gymnastics

Action from the KS1 Festival4 Schools took part in the first ever Key Stage 1 Gymnastics festival which was held at Priory School & Sports College on Friday 23rd November.

Congratulations to all the schools who took part as the quality of the event was so good as a result of the practice which schools and teachers had put in. Eventual winners were Ward Green who finished with the highest score after all the routines.

Event Winners from the Y2 Football12 Schools took part in the 2nd Year 3 Football Multi Skills which was held at Barnsley Football Club Academy Complex on Thursday 22nd November. Congratulations to High View PLC who finished as event winners.

Year 5/6 Girls Football Finals

Action from the Tournament13 schools took part in the Year 5/6 Girls Football Final which was held at Barnsley Football Club on Thursday 15th November. Each school was a winner of their individual family events and congratulations go to The Edmunds from the Barnsley Academy family who finished as eventual winners and Barnsley Champions.

National Angling Championships

3 Barnsley Schools, Edward Sheerien, St. Michael's and Holgate entered the National Angling Chamionships on Friday 9th November. Of 12 teams entered Holgate finished 4th with the other schools finishing 5th and 9th respectively.

Secondary Cross Country League

Congratulations to Priory who finished as overall winners of the Secondary Cross Country Leagues and also individual year group winners. Congratulations also to the individual winners who will recieve a medal along with the 2nd and 3rd place runners.

Y 7 Girls Football Tournament

Y7 Girls Football9 Schools took part in the Year 7 Girls Football Tournament which was held at Darton High School on Thursday 18th October.
Congratulations go to Kingstone who finished as eventual winners of the tournament, beating Holgate 1-0 in a closely played final.

Y 5/6 Cross Country - Phoenix Park

Orienteering Action6 Schools took part in the first ever Year 5/6 Cross Country at Phoenix Park in Barnsley. Around 200 children took part in the event with 4 races for Year 5 and Year 6. Children ran over distances of around 1500 metres with all trying hard until they had crossed the finish line. Congratulation go to all the winners including Wakefield Independant school who took part in their first event in Barnsley.

Y 3-6 Orienteering Competition - Locke Park

Orienteering ActionAround 800 children from schools across Barnsley took part in the Year 3-6 Barnsley Orienteering Championships which were held at Locke Park on Friday 12th October. Children took part in pairs and attempted to finish the set courses in the quickest time possible. Prizes are awarded for the quickest pair in each category who finished with all their controls correct.

Y 8/9 Girls Football Tournament

The Winning Team from Kingstone8 Schools took part in the Year 8/9 Girls Football Tournament which was held at Darton High School on Thursday 4th October bringing 12 teams in total. Congratulations go to Kingstone B who finished as eventual winners of the tournament, beating St. Michael's A in a closely played final.

Y 4/5 Tri Golf Competition

Action form the Barnsley Tri Golf CompetitionThe 2nd Barnsley Tri Golf Competition took place on Friday 28th Spetember at Shaw Lane. 4 schools entered the competition bringing 5 teams in total. Children worked around a circuit of stations which challenged them on different aspects of golf including chipping, putting and distance hitting and also encouraged teamwork.

Support Barnsley in the SY Sport Awards

SY Sport Awards Nominations are now open for the 2007 South Yorkshire Sport and re:play Sports Awards. All nominations from Barnsley will be automatically entered into the Barnsley Sports Awards which will take place at the Metrodome in December. So come on lets show South Yorkshire what Barnsley Sports people are made off.
