Year 5/6 Athletics Competitions
23 schools took part in the 4 Year 5/6 Athletics Events which took place at Dorothy Hyman Stadium between Tuesday 1st July and Friday 4th July. Each school brought a team of boys and girls to take part in a variety of track and field events from 50m sprint and shuttle run to javelin and speed bounce. The schools were allocated a country and provided with t-shirts to wear whilst competing which have been kindly provided by Trustsport of Barnsley.
It was great to see schools with flags and face paint from their countries which all added to the terrific atmosphere of the event. Thanks to all the pupils, staff and parents who spent the whole afternoon cheering on their competitors and competitors from other schools taking part. The event finished with a boys, girls and mixed relay which had all the athletes, staff and parents jumping up and down in the stands encouraging their runners and provided a great finale to the event.
Thanks to Priory Sports College and Kingstone School for providing Young Sports Leaders to help officiate at the event as we would not have been able to put on the event without them. Also, thanks to Dorothy Hyman stadium and Barnsley Athletics Development Group for allowing us to use equipment and facilities.
